…but it’s encouraging that only a quarter of Americans share Barack Obama’s political views. So why do do many more say they’d vote for him?

People voted for Obama because they were sick of the whole Bush neo-con BS. People are sick of a GOP that believes in anything other than limited government, less regulation, and lower taxes.
It is particularly insulting to suggest that I need a government to tell me what I can do in my own bedroom any more than how I can run my own business and financial affairs.
Yeah, President McCain was going to overturn Lawrence v. Texas. Quite the bullet we dodged there…
I’m sure President McCain’s wife was going to spend a lot of money telling people what to eat, too.
I don’t remember the Left ever saying the kitchen was out-of-bounds.
I don’t care. Obama is awesome.
“So why do do many more say they’d vote for him?”
Because it almost never matters anyway.
The Bradley Effect?
“People voted for Obama because they were sick of the whole Bush neo-con BS. People are sick of a GOP that believes in anything other than limited government, less regulation, and lower taxes.”
You know what. Those two sentences not only don’t belong in the same paragraph, they don’t belong on the same planet.
Simple. As much as the public disagrees with the President they fear the Tea Party radicals far more then 4 more years of President Obama. If you had a normal Republican running they would beat him easily, but the Tea Party candidates, especially after seeing what Tea Party Governors are doing to their states, scares the moderate Republican and Independent voters who decide elections far more then keeping President Obama in another four years.
So basically its the choice between Senator Reid and Sharon Angle at the national level. Senator Reid only kept his job thanks to the Tea Party. Any normal Republican would have beat him in a landslide.
Don’t project your own lunacy on the general public, Tom.
Rand,
Sorry if you don’t like reality, but general elections are decided by moderates and independents, not the party radicals. And if you move out of your comfort zone of Libertarian bloggers you will see how the rest of the voters feel about many of the Tea Party candidates running.
No, Thomas. You’re the one who does not understand reality. Rand understands reality just fine.
We saw how the public thinks about the matter just last November. You remember what happened last November, don’t you Thomas? Hints: Republicans regained control of the House and gained several seats in the Senate. They won many governorships and control of several state legislatures. And the Tea Party was very instrumental in all that.
In Matula’s fantasy, John McCain would have beat Obama if only the former didn’t pick Sarah Palin.
Leland,
The odds would have still been long given the economy, but he would have had a much better chance if he had someone more experienced with the economic issues who was seen as a competent replacement given Senator McCain’s age. And someone who could have brought some major states with him to the table.
Of course if all the Tea Partiers now complaining about President Obama had bothered to vote in the election it would have helped as well 🙂
Did I call it or what?
Here’s one for tomorrow… I predict the sun will rise in the east and set in the west.

Written by a guy who voted for Harry Reid in 2010.
What no-one has mentioned yet is that the media elected Obama, covered for him all the way, and pissed all over Palin for good measure. Pretty hard to have a legitimate election when the press is totally in the bag. Remember that “15 points” they tried to give Kerry?, well they delivered for Obama and they will try it again next time.
It’s been mentioned, just not in this thread.
But good point, none the less. That quarter of support doesn’t have the 15 points already built in yet, thus it sort of answers Rand’s question.
Leland,
I rather have Senator Reid represent Nevada then Sharon “did I say that?” Angle who is the only person voters in Nevada hate more and is the state joke. Indeed, she is so hated the Republican Party has basically made sure she wouldn’t muck the up the election to replace Congressman Heller.
If the Tea Party really wanted Senator Reid replaced they should have just stayed out of the Nevada Republican primary instead of hijacking it with out-of-state money. A real Republican would have beat him easily.
