The first commenter is correct. It is impossible to have an intelligent discussion about this due to political correctness and multi-culturalism.

Leland said of me: “[Bob] dismissed my comment on multicultural grounds. Bob claimed I didn’t consider the nuance of Islam.”
That’s completely untrue.
Bob-1 said:
“Much as I might like Chicago to be the center of the universe via the blessed Obama…”
Are you for real? Assuming you are an Obama supporter and not some kind of incredibly subtle parody, do you not understand just how crazy that makes you and your compatriots sound to people in the middle?
“the blessed Obama”- Now I really have hard everything.
Bob: Salim (the author of the letter) was specifically contrasting Islam, a religion, with Islamism (a movement like communism). Leland, I think you’re ignoring this distinction. And while the first commenter doesn’t ignore the distinction, he or she seems to think it is just too hard to figure out who’s who, so the answer is to contain all Muslims.
Oh, I just ignored the cultural difference between Islam and Islamism. And we shouldn’t lump Islamism as all Muslims?
The United Kingdom is a Republic!
*I think I’m going to just start adopting Titus’s approach from Boston Legal.
Re: profiling:
“Refrain from evil and all appearance of evil.”
In other words, if you don’t want to be treated as a hoodlum, don’t dress and act like one.
Re: arresting men of science:
The Roman Catholic Church of the time had deviated greatly from the foundations of Christianity. The dogma Galileo challenged wasn’t even Christian, but a Greek cosmology the corrupted church had adopted.
@Leland, High Speed Catchphrase!
@peterh, my point was not to call No_True_Scotsman in internetdebatelibrary.dll, but to prompt original thought vis-a-vis memetic purity without (as Carl Pham would say) “running the experiment again” and changing none of the inputs. We know that result.
Yes, this is like our argument about the definition of a republic, in that it demonstrates your lack ability to reason about abstract categories, and it demonstrates your pride in that lack of ability. But this time, it is insulting to millions of good people, including some of these folks:
Association of Patriotic Arab Americans in Military
http://www.apaam.org/
Ken Anthony, above you asked “Where is the muslim 442?” Since the military has desegregated, you won’t find all-Arab or all-Muslim units, but the above link is today’s version of the answer to your question.
Arabs do not = Muslim. From the link above, “The fact is, half of the Arabs in the United States , for example, are not Muslim, but they are Christian.”
Important distinction =p
Oh geez, Bob is an idiot.
Wodun, ha ha, but that’s why I carefully said “some of these folks” when referring to the APAAM, and not all of them. It looks like you did click on the link though, and I sincerely hope you found it worth a few moments of your time.
It was interesting and bookmarked for future reading.
