I’m having trouble working up much angst about this. But then, I’ve never been a fan of Big Music.
People will continue to make music, and sell it. But they’ll have to rely more on talent than hype, and few will get as unreasonably rich as they did in the past on it. More will be doing it because they want to make music. And the general collectivist inclination of political contributions of the industry and individual “artists” (to use the term loosely in many cases)) is just a bonus.
What you had to say is a fine personal comment and that’s all good indeed, where would we be as a society of Free speech and opinion if we couldn’t speak our minds right? Is the Industry dead? Not at all, slow like everything else, yes. we will and shall rebound from this, after all Music is the core of all creation, Vibes man Vibes, you feel it all the way through in every being, man, woman, child and animal. So with that being said, I as an Indie Artist, believe the Internet & Social Media are the best thing in Musical history for us to take control of our own destiny as an Artist.
The days of landing that Big contract are practically over 🙁 that may break some hearts but it’s true. Grab this wave of Independence and Fly man/woman Indie you Artist.
I’ll leave you with this, if you really want this music life, ” Learn the business of the business you are in” for more words from me, check me out @ http://www.thesilverconductor.com

A much funnier take on how the big labels ruined music is this early ’90s essay by famed producer Steve Albini: http://www.negativland.com/albini.html
This capita here is spending considerably more on physical CDs than some other capita, but I think I’ve purchased maybe 3 or 4 new CDs in the last 18 months; I’ve purchased well over three dozen used CDs in that time, and was at around a dozen used CDs per month at my peak a few years ago.
