…and property rights. How our ancestors became prosperous.
Plus, three centuries of Thansgiving.
And here’s the recipe for my Thanksgiving dressing (probably too late for you to procure ingredients, though, sorry), which I’ll be making today. While watching the Lions embarrass themselves. Again.
[Friday morning update]
The lost lesson of Thanksgiving, from John Stossel.
Charming set of dinner guests. Who’s the lady on the left?
Love the narration!
That stuffing recipe really does look good. I’d make it myself today, but I don’t have the thyme…
The Lions aren’t embarrassing themselves so far. They’re giving my Pats a run for their money and leading 17-10 at the half. The Lions have been improving fast so far this year. Still, the thing that’s kept them from winning more games is they aren’t yet good at closing the deal late in the game. I’m not worried, much, yet…
Brings back memories of my junior-high report on the 1841-1847 Brook Farm commune (coincidentally, also located in Massachusetts). Its collectivist experiment followed the same path as the early Plymouth colony; the mundane chores were optional, so they were neglected, so the commune failed to produce enough to feed its residents (the 1844 Thanksgiving turkey was a neighbor’s gift) – or to pay founder George Ripley’s debt, which was paid off in 1862.
The Lions made a game of it for three quarters. Their defense in particular looked good early. Wore down in the fourth quarter though, which is one of the hazards of starting a game flying on emotion. Still, they might have successfully bushwhacked the Pats and won this one, if Cleveland (another rapidly improving team) hadn’t already done so recently. No way Belichick is going to let that happen twice in one month.
Happy T-Day to all!
You forgot Harry Truman, John Kennedy, Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln (government by the people, for the people and of the people) and of course Jesus Christ (And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.- King James Bible)
Communist heads of state have always been pretty rich.
Communism, socialism, and redistributionism are all based on theft. Free markets minimize theft.
Jesus didn’t belong at that table, Marcel. Judging by the incident with St. Pete the Knife and the servant’s ear, J.C. was a pacifist. You can’t be a State-socialist and not believe in force. If Jesus didn’t believe in force for self-defense he certainly wouldn’t have advocated it aggressively, the way you State-humpers do.
And if J. C. was adamantly against rich people, wasn’t it hypocritical of him to take money from the wealthy widows who apparently financed his ministry?
For the rest of you: doesn’t it seem like Marcel just grows even MORE ignorant with each message he posts? It’s a Thanklsgiving miracle!
Marcel,
that means it’s tougher, NOT impossible.
MPM,
it’s Babs Streisand. I guess they took that picture before she left the country, back when GWB was elected.
And the dressing does sound great. But I’m not feeding an army! That puppy has to weigh 5 or 6 pounds, right?

Yeah! How tough could it be for a camel to go through the eye of a needle??? How about impossible! Unless we could use the technology from “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” or maybe even “Fantastic Voyage”:-)

I think you need to turn off the FOX channel and Sarah Palin’s Alaska before the black UN helicopters get you:-)
Jesus often used hyperbole to make a point. He said it was difficult to be rich and have your priorities right. Having helped a number of people go from poor to rich I’ve seen the results. It ain’t easy.
Another brilliant riposte from Marcel.
I call shenanigans. “Marcel” is clearly Bilwick’s sock-puppet – no one could be that moronic and predictable.
(Yes, wishful thinking on my part, I know…)
