The Rally To Restore Smugness is apparently stuff white people like. Plus, multiculturalism and sharia.

I have never understood the whole “Stuff White People Like” thing. I assume it’s written by liberal white people trying to show how racially enlightened they are by making fun of other white people. My question is: how is it funny? I have read many entries on the website, and I have yet to laugh once. I mean, yes, many white people like L.L. Bean sweaters and Ray-Ban sunglasses. So what? Where’s the humor in pointing this out? It’s like making a website called “Stuff Cats Like”, and writing articles about yarn and tuna fish. I just don’t get it.
I have no problem with racist humor, whether it ridicules white people or some other color. I do, however, insist that it be, well, humorous. How is “Stuff White People Like” humorous?
The reason you don’t think it’s humorous is the same reason that you think it’s written by white “liberals.” It’s written by people making fun of white “liberals.” Or yuppies. Or both.
Beyond that, if you don’t get it, it’s probably not possible to explain the joke.
Is it SWPL to laugh up your sleeve at WP who don’t “get” SWPL mockery?
I admit that I had no idea that SWPL is written by white people making fun of white liberals. (And I’m apparently not the only one who doesn’t get the joke). To my mind, it always seemed like an overextended version of that bit on The Simpsons where Homer reacts to a black comedian’s ridicule of white people’s driving style by chortling “It’s true! We’re so lame!”
Rand, either the site is written by Christian Lander, a liberal with a good sense of humor, or the following interview with the author is part of the joke: http://www.avclub.com/articles/christian-lander,14296/
Toward the end of the interview (13 questions from the bottom, to be exact) all is explained, including this nugget:
AVC: What’s the procedure for deciding what gets on the list?
CL: Me. It’s a mirror.
@B Lewis: +1
There’s a web site? And it’s written by a white liberal about white liberals?
From what I’ve seen (many steps removed, obviously), I thought “SWPL” referred to white racists. *shrug*
