It looks like they dropped it today, or recently.
It’s been six months since the roll out. They’ve made a lot of progress. It’s a real rocketplane now. Or at least airplane — not sure about the status on the hybrid motor.
[Update late afternoon]
I am reliably informed that it was not the real thing, but a model that some of the Virgin guys were flying in the parking lot this morning. The day will come, though. They’ve been doing captive-carry flights. At some point, they’ll have to drop the bird.
Talk about your stealth aircraft. I guess they’re concerned something might go wrong, so don’t tell anyone about it in advance.
Space 2.0 can suck for those of us trying to play along at home.
@Dave — Totally agree. 🙂 But don’t let on that you didn’t know this kind of stuff was going on — around here, that means “you’re just not paying attention”, lol. Space isn’t supposed to be fun to watch, see? It’s just supposed to be “boringly profitable”.
@Rand — Where’d you get the pic? I sure hope it’s a real plane — for all I can tell from the photo, it might be dropping like a rock! 😀
If it were dropping like a rock, I’d have known about it by now…
And it’s not reasonable to expect to be able to see test flights. Be happy when the opportunity arises.
Yes -remember all the flack they took during the touch and go flight testing? They probably just decided to avoid the circus.
I’m glad to hear they’re making progress. I had not seen anything since the first captive flight months ago. With SS1, they published brief flight test summaries. No such luck with SS2. Oh, well. It’s a private project and they don’t have to tell us anything is they don’t want to.
uh, guys, that’s a MODEL.
not sure about the status on the hybrid motor.
Last I heard, it’s a train wreck.
“uh, guys, that’s a MODEL.”
Quiet, Patsy…
uh, guys, that’s a MODEL.
Camelot!
