…to whomever purchased the big screen via my Amazon link. As it turns out, I could really use the money right now. I’m in between gigs, and things are tight, though I’m hoping that will change soon.

Wasn’t me. I the guy who buys cd’s thru your link.
I buy all of my Blu-rays and CDs through your link, although I wish there was a way to verify that the cookie is actually set properly; I visit a number of different sites that have Amazon partnerships, and I sometimes wonder who is actually getting credit sometimes.
Unfortunately any large purchases I make have to be cash — as in, paper bills taken from my wallet and handed over in person.
It’s a fiscal discipline thing, and only very slightly my own fault.
@McGehee: I’m somewhat like that, but I use a debit card.
It’s going to be a LONG time before I can afford a big-screen TV, but this month I’m planning on buying a book (the collected Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers), a cheap DVD, and a kit to repair a traverse curtain rod, from Amazon.
I’m on a monthly budget cycle, and unless things are really bad (like they have been for most of this past winter) I put in an order at Amazon at the beginning of the month.
The advantages of Amazon are low prices, free shipping on orders over $25 (if you don’t mind waiting two weeks, nothing in my order is an emergency), and no sales tax.
Rand, roughly what percentage of the sale do sites such as yours get? I used to donate thru links, but several years ago I stopped doing so because I read somewhere that the amount was miniscule; on a typical order of $100, the site would get @$0.04.
Has this changed in the last few years? While I am unemployed, I am still buying a few books thru Amazon when I scrape up the cash.

Oh, it’s much more than that. It depends on the item, but for that particular purchase, I got forty bucks for a thousand-dollar television. I think that typically it’s at least three percent.
Speaking only for myself, as a daily consumer of your website I think it only fair that some compensation, voluntary of course, is in order for your efforts.
Just curious, did you get anything from the three books I just ordered from Amazon. I used the search, but not sure if I did everything right. In a couple of months I hope to make about a $400 purchase on Amazon and would certainly like for you to get your piece.
