Misdirection?

Hey, AP. Searchlight is south of Las Vegas, not north. It’s almost like they want people to not find the place.

[Update a couple minutes later]

I’m saving the screenshot to see if they go back and fix it. Of course, our elite journalists can’t be expected to know the geography of flyover country.

[Update a few minutes later]

The Tea Party express is reporting that their buses are being egged in Searchlight:

Supporters of Senator Harry Reid have just thrown eggs at the Tea Party Express bus caravan – striking at least one of the three buses (the red Tea Party Express bus) with multiple eggs.

About 35 Reid supporters had lined Highway 95 in front of the Nugget Casino in Searchlight where they were attempting a counter-demonstration the tens of thousands of tea party supporters who are gathering for the “Showdown in Searchlight.”

But don’t accuse them of hate or anger! I’m kind of amused that there are only thirty-five Harry Reid supporters in his home town. Not surprised, though.

[Sunday morning update]

At least dozens” attended. Well, I guess it’s technically true. So would “At least one…”

And as Glenn notes, “at least dozens” watch CNN. And this kind of biased stupidity is one of the reasons.

  1. The story at your link has been fixed.

‘About 7,000 people streamed into tiny Searchlight, a former mining town 60 miles south of Las Vegas, bringing American flags, “Don’t Tread on Me” signs and outspoken anger toward Reid, President Barack Obama and the health care overhaul.’

  2. Chris L. – Ever been to Searchlight? It’s in the middle of nowhere. Literally. Like 30 miles to the next town, and that one (Boulder City) ain’t exactly big.

  3. Chris G.
The place is also attracting several thousand people from out of town. It is just as likely that the Reid “supporters” are also from out of town.

  4. Josh, I hear what you are saying and I know what you mean, but Senators really don’t represent their states anymore, do they, at least not like the founders intended. They are only elected by their states.

  5. I’ve always thought of egg-throwing as a sign of displeasure and dislike, symbolic of scorn, not as a sign of ‘hate or anger’. Were it hate or anger I imagine they’d be using sticks and stones.

  6. Thing is, egging the bus doesn’t hurt the passengers, it hurts the bus company. They’re punishing the bus company for allowing Tea Party people to charter their buses — with, no doubt, an intended incentive effect they hope will inconvenience future Tea Party organizers.

I’m sure the egg-throwers weren’t wearing purple shirts, but they undoubtedly own them.

  7. but Senators really don’t represent their states anymore, do they

Yea, I hear ya. The States lost their voice in the federal gov’t when the assignment of senators was taken away from the governors and handed over to the general election by the people of the state. The House of Representatives embodies the democratic standard by which people voice their desires through their vote. The Senate, should, represent the republican standards by which the state voices their concerns through the wishes of the elected governors. When the Senators were handed over to the general elections this gave them carte blanche to do whatever they wanted more or less. After all they could just say, “I’m just acting on behalf of my constituents.” But a state is generally so large that all the people contained therein have a multitude of opinions and ideals. This give the Senator the ability to migrate to a number of positions and always be able to make the constituents claim.

  8. That same AP story by Michael R. Blood (how apropos) said Breibart didn’t prove a negative by not offering proof activists DIDN’T shout racial slurs.

“Conservative columnist Andrew Breitbart disputed accounts that tea party activists in Washington shouted racial epithets at black members of Congress amid the health care debate, although he didn’t provide any evidence.”

So Mr. Blood, when did you stop beating your wife?
