It’s A High Bar

But Paul Krugman may have hurdled it — his dumbest statement yet:

Democrats had a lot of harsh things to say about former President George W. Bush — but you’ll search in vain for anything comparably menacing.

I guess he didn’t get out much. But it doesn’t matter, because…you know…assassination threats and wishes against George Bush weren’t racist. And hateful.

[Saturday morning update]

Paul Krugman always gets the memo.

What a tool.

  1. I do recall Al Gore accused George W. Bush of ‘betraying this country,’ but perhaps Krugman doesn’t consider an accusation of treason as being all that serious.

  2. Here’s some more along the lines of what Krugman has missed.

That guy has one picture of a whack sign. Where’s the rest of the evidence?

  3. Yawn. The difference is still an order of magnitude. Call me when they start throwing eggs at Obama’s limo…

  4. Democrats had a lot of harsh things to say about former President George W. Bush — but you’ll search in vain for anything comparably menacing.

Hmm, what’s that period doing at the end there? Krugman didn’t put a period there, he put a comma, and the sentence continues:

Democrats had a lot of harsh things to say about former President George W. Bush — but you’ll search in vain for anything comparably menacing, anything that even hinted at an appeal to violence, from members of Congress, let alone senior party officials.

Shame on the National Review for butchering the quote to serve their purposes, and shame on Rand for not checking the source before posting the mis-quote. To their credit, NR has apologized for “this serious error.” Rand should amend this post and second that apology.

  5. How about ‘I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for,’ attributed to Howard Dean, head of the DNC. Or is that insufficiently menacing?

  6. That guy has one picture of a whack sign. Where’s the rest of the evidence?

Dave, try using the scroll bar down the left side of your browser window. There is like 27 pages of photos and audio providing evidence of threats against George Bush.

  7. “But the vitriol also reflects the fact that many of the people at [the Republican National Convention], for all their flag-waving, hate America. They want a controlled, monolithic society; they fear and loathe our nation’s freedom, diversity and complexity.” — Paul Krugman

Nah. I can’t see why anyone could be encouraged in untoward action by something like that.

  8. (Maher asks Kerry what he got his wife for her birthday)

Kerry: I did not get her catchup

    *laughs*

Maher: … you could have gone to New Hampshire and killed two birds with one stone.

    *laughs*

Kerry: I could have gone to 1600 Pennsylvania and killed the real bird with one stone.

    *laughs*

  9. “They want a controlled, monolithic society; they fear and loathe our nation’s freedom, diversity and complexity.”

    Projection, thy name is Krugman.

  10. I could have gone to 1600 Pennsylvania and killed the real bird with one stone.

    *laughs*

<sarcasm>Yeah, lots of menace and incitement there.</sarcasm>

    Still no correction from Rand.

  11. What was that “”I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face,” thing all about? If you find that less threatening that Fire Pelosi, you might as well get your brownblue shirt now.
