The Facebook page. I think that if this thing becomes law, it will set off civil disobedience and litigation unseen in decades. And there will be two fronts on which to battle it — the constitutionality of the legislation itself, and of the means by which it was passed.
[Early afternoon update]
How unpopular is ObamCare? Really, really, really unpopular. And they don’t like the way it’s being done, either.
I still haven’t figured out how it’s “taking away liberties” to provide you a service you will want, unless you are literally suicidal.
You have just described your mental illness. You don’t see how taking away personal choice is the same as taking away liberties. Can you even define the word liberty?
Real people aren’t that hard to predict. Assume that a large number will be as selfish as the rules allow and you won’t be too far off the mark. If you mandate that insurance companies cover a pre-existing condition at well less than the actual cost, you’re allowing people to be very selfish.
The reason the ivory tower idiots keep getting it wrong is they fail to consider how people motivated by self interest will react.
I was going to reply to this.
But I thought it was better just to repost it and go and have a drink.
Good health.
I’m glad I’m not paying for Daveon’s alcoholism.
Chris:
A late follow up. You said: “What would be absolutely fair is to take total cost to provide needed healthcare and divide it by the number of the people in the US”
At a cost of $7,439 per person in 2007, my household would cost would be $52,073 for 2007, and a projected $8,056 per person in 2009 would bring my cost to $56,239 for 2009.
If I could save that amount of money in an HSA, within five years I could self-insure against just about any kind medical catastophe. Of course, if I were to actually be required to deposit that sum into an HSA or equivalent, I would be living in a van, down by the river.

Then again, if your grandparents had chosen to live in a van down by the river and saved… you might be a redneck. 🙂

I don’t believe I specified the type of drink I was going to have.
As it happens it was a Guiness. After all, it was the 17th and I am technically Irish.
Sadly it was also just the one because that’s all I had in the fridge.
Chris Gerrb (of course) writes: “Way to be team players.”
My team is the pro-liberty team, Chris. That’s l-i-b-e-r-t-y. You ought to look it up. Probably be a good idea to found a country on it some day,
I’m just happy I was here to witness his “oh, sh*t!” moment. 🙂
