  1. I wouldn’t be too hard on her. She talked a lot about the inner character. I couldn’t imagine Will Smith as Jim West, but he did a great job of it.

  2. I don’t think the Mary Ann or Ginger poll had anything to do with their respective belief systems.

  3. Oh, I strongly disagree. A large part of my preference for Mary Ann was that she seemed like a wholesome girl-next-door type, as compared to an airheaded movie star. It was about a lot more than looks.

  4. I will admit that if Bernie Mac were still alive I could see him playing the Skipper.

As it is, I doubt very much that I’ll be the least bit interested in seeing a “Gilligan” remake. I still haven’t seen the “Dukes of Hazzard remake movie, and it’s got Jessica Simpson in it.

    In short shorts!

Y’know what? The fact I haven’t seen the “Dukes” remake movie is just pathetic.

  5. I always fancied the Professor, myself.

    Sexist.

Well, I never saw the original Dukes, so…

  6. Who exactly thinks that a big-screen remake of Gilligan’s Island in the year 2010 is a good idea? I’m not getting it.

  7. And really, Paris Hilton as Ginger? Gag.

The character Ginger may have been a vain, shallow Hollywood starlet, but she had a hell of a lot more class than that.

  8. Apparently all the original stories and ideas have been used up in Hollywood, so now we are reduced to making a big screen adaptation of a cute but aged TV show. It wasn’t exactly Masterpiece Theater to begin with, so the movie doesn’t strike me as “stand in line to get in” material.

Hollywood has never had an original thought. It is THE echo chamber. The best they can do is adapt the story of a good book.

Look at the Shawshank Redemption. While I like Morgan Freeman as an Irishman; Tim Robbins is totally miscast if you’ve read the book. Robbin’s character is supposed to be a mousy guy that can fit in a tight pipe and ask a huge cop if he trusts his wife while standing at the edge of the roof of a building. Robbin’s may be mousy in intellect, but he’s a big guy, totally out of character.

  10. Ken, the Wild, Wild West remake stunk up the joint. Four strong actors and one horrible script.

I like Fox’s suggestion that Christina Hendricks play Ginger. Va-voom.

The only actor which came quickly to mind was DJ Qualls as Gilligan.

    Let’s see…

Skipper: Craig T. Nelson, or Jeff Bridges.

Gilligan: DJ Qualls. Or maybe Tobey Maguire (he’s free these days). Or Steve Zahn.

Ginger: Christina Hendricks. Or Uma Thurmond.

Mary Ann: Jennifer Garner (let out some of that West Virginia mountain girl for once).

The Professor: I agree with Fox on this also. Baker was good in Something New and The Devil Wears Prada. If not him, how about Matthew McConaughey? Or even Hugh Laurie? 🙂

The Howells: Michael Caine & Emma Thompson.

    ———-

The Coyote Ugly (AKA you’d gnaw your own leg off to avoid seeing it) cast: with diversity.

The Skipper: Shatner. Or Danny Glover.

Gilligan: Chris Rock or Carlos Mencia.

Ginger: Paris Hilton, or Lindsay Lohan. Or Courtney Love. Or Nicole Ritchey.

Mary Ann: Miley Cyrus. Or Amy Winehouse.

The Professor: Arsenio Hall. (we’re talkin’ diverse and terrible, here)

The Howells: Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez. Hey, it couldn’t suck worse than Gili, right?

  11. Skipper: Corbin Bernsen (I’m a fan of Psych)
Professor: Joe Morton (I’m a fan of Eureka)
    Ginger: Morena Baccarin (Firefly)
Mary Ann: Shawn Johnson (great smile, don’t care if she can act)
Thurston Howell, III: Mike Myers (the hardest working man in show biz)
    Lovey: Christina Applegate (“Trophy Lovey”)
Gilligan: Eric Szmanda (I love CSI)
    BBB

  12. Ken, the Wild, Wild West remake stunk up the joint.

Well yeah. But I enjoyed the acting. There was a meta-level of camp in it.

  13. Gilligan: Zach Braff

    Skipper: Randy Quaid

    Professor: Alan Rickman

    Ginger: Jennifer Tilly w/red hair.

    Mary Ann: Penelope Cruz

    Thurston Howell, III: Kelsey Grammer

    Lovey: Heather Graham
