It looks like a Republican is likely to be running the state next year. I wonder what the legislature will look like?

Regarding the legislature, I would like put in a plug for Scott Tillman.

See, support for libertarians comes from all quarters!
When I left right after the absurd Governor Barbie re-election, the legislature was pretty solidly GOP, hard to see that changing now.
I wonder how long Kildee can pursue the Governoership without abaondoning his congressional seat. He pretty much gets re-elected automatically by the Flint-Saginaw area but a Dem who doesn’t have his name recognition in this political climate… maybe not.
Either Cox or Hoekstra would be fantastic Governors, but I would prefer Cox, only because I’d like to keep Hoekstra in the Congress. His seat would surely be kept by a GOPer in his absense He’s a valuable voice on security issues in and would be sorely missed in the house.
I hope either Cox or Hoekstra is a viable candidate in two years when either Carl Marx Levin or Liberal Debbie is up for US Senate re-election. Now that I’m out of MI this is the only way a change in the MI political climate would really help me.
But will the out of work unions really elect a Republican considering all the good the Democrats have done for them over the last 20 or 30 years?

On the election front regarding Governors. I was listening to NPR tonight, I was waiting for a music show, but the comedic news was as good.
The news woman read something that was worded not exactly, but close to this, but I got the last line DEAD ON.
“For the second time in three days, a Democrat has announced he will be retiring, almost immediately from the House of Representatives. Congressman Nathan Deal has said he will retire, after 18 years in the nations capitol representing the “X” district of Georgia.”
“Representative Deal leaves the House while under investigation by the House Ethics Committee concerning his business dealings with the state. By leaving he effectively kills that investigation of his business ethics.”
(here’s the punch line)
“Congressman Deal will return to his home state, TO RUN FOR GOVERNOR.”
(emphasis mine, sort of)
The news lady sounded as flustered by that last line as any news reader I’ve ever heard. I laughed until tears were rolling. Between that last line and her exasperation, it was better than dinner and a show at the Comedy Store.
Nathan Deal was only a Democrat his first term in Congress. According to Wikipedia he switched parties after the 1994 turnabout.
It is kind of funny though, if NPR thinks a congressman who’s been a Republican for the last 15 years, is still a Democrat.
McGehee,
the funny part wasn’t the party, NPR is often “fact challenged” in the news reporting.
The funny part was an NPR reporter OPENLY exasperated by him beating the Ethics problem by leaving the House, and his being so ethical, now, that he’s going to go back to the state he was accused of had dirty dealings in, to run for Governor!!
I think it hit her the same way it hit me.
What better place to rape and pillage since Viking times, than the State House!!
And what’s his campaign slogan?
“I was crooked THEN, but I’m honest NOW!”
Wait, I’ve got it, he used to be a Democrat, became a Republican, accused of ethics violations, how about this,
“You better Hope I’ve Changed”
Personally, I think that just quitting his job should NOT stop the investigation. And hopefully some aspiring young U.S. A.G. will pick it up and make a name for themself.
What bothers me about Deal mostly is that my congressman has been said to favor him for governor. My congressman, the first I’ve ever had that it was a genuine pleasure to vote for.
Now my support for term limits is unalloyed. Even my all-time favorite congressman needs to come back home and reconnect with his neighbors.
