Quoted on that blog:
“In my conversations with those who sacrificed a son, a husband, a brother, or a boyfriend, all were universally grateful for George W. Bush’s sincere — and private — conversations with them either before or directly after an event or speech at a military base. As a routine, Bush would meet behind closed doors with family members who’d lost loved ones as part of his stop at military installations.”
Since words? Nah, since it’s clear that the actions taken by Bush were far from sincere. If you can’t figure out that words are cheap,….
I can figure out that Bush didn’t use that opportunity for a photo-op. And confronting people in mourning isn’t a cheap activity. That eliminates most of the insincere reasons.
Pulitzer winning? Oh, do you mean what I like to call, “the Duranty prize”?

Reminds me of Donald Norman’s advice to never hire an architect if he’s won awards. Do you want him designing a house for you, or for an awards committee?
