…for the defenders of child rape in Hollywood. I don’t think they have any concept of how much this kind of thing costs them at the box office.

Honestly, I can’t imagine it hurting them too much. Maybe Roman himself won’t do well, but the signatories of that morally bankrupt petition will probably get away with it. Most people just aren’t going to remember or care a year from now who signed that thing when they’re trying to decide which movie to go see on a Friday night – they’ll just see the movie that interests them the most.
The A-Listers have to be really ugly and obnoxious personally and on YouTube/TV (where their face becomes associated with the bad memory) for it to effect their box office receipts. Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson have managed to achieve this level of ugliness, but the Polanskiites haven’t.
Word is that Polanski’s next film is so good, Europe is going to let him bang an eight-year-old — it’s just that good!
Brock’s right, sadly, most people won’t even think about. It won’t even register.
I’ll be honest, until the fuss started I’d not actually read the details of the case and had a degree of sympathy with him as a figure after what had happened to Sharon Tate.
Once I’d read the Grand Jury notes that pretty evapourated. I think Luc Beson has actually summed it up best explaining why he refused to sign the petition: “I have a lot of affection for him, he is a man that I like very much but nobody should be above the law. “
This guy should fry. He’s been convicted, fled the country and has been “hiding” in plain sight for 30 years. That should count heavily against him in our justice system, IMHO.
Whoopi, Scorsese, Lynch, Mann, and the rest of the Hollyweirdoids would be calling for public floggings and televised emasculation, and watching the event would be made mandatory for everyone over two feet tall, if this was someone named Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck…
Example.
Remember the outrage when Limbaugh announced that he was addicted to pills? The Whoopis, et al, wanted him jailed for the maximum sentence for basically harming himself. Oh, it was horrible, he’s such a hypocrite!! He should be fined whatever the amount of his fortune is, leave him broke!! There were calls to write new laws to “break him”.
But the rape and sodomizing of a teenager is OK?
No dual standard there, huh? Are we spiraling the drain yet?
