The analysis is right. It doesn’t matter. We’re going to lose this.
The right and the Republicans still don’t realize what’s at stake. The key moment for me was when I heard that Republican heads in BOTH houses had called Joe Wilson and ordered him to apologize.
I feel like I did when McCain announced that he wouldn’t mention Wright on the campaign trail. The loss was foreordained at that point, because the McCain campaign was determined to fight using the old “we’re all on the same team”rules.
The Republicans in congress still think they’re using the Marquess of Queensbury rules. They may intellectually know that the current situation is different, but deep down they still believe that the media will challenge Obama on his lies.
The Republican response to Wilson should have been universal support coupled with a demand that the President apologize for dissembling repeatedly and nakedly to the American people.
If we continue to fight with our hands tied behind our back while they apply no rules to themselves, we will lose. And for good.
