A Walmart superstore opened yesterday morning in our community. Two weeks ago, grocery chains in the area lowered their food prices considerably to meet the new competition. What’s not to like about that?
Danae: “What’s not to like about that?”
Couple years ago, Walmart opened multiple stores in our area & started carrying fabrics. Local fabric stores started lowering their prices to try and compete.
All Good, right?
Local Fabric stores went out of business (including a couple that were family-owned and local run).
Ok. Good prices from Walmart, right?
Walmart stops selling fabrics.
Oops.
And while I don’t subscribe to the tin-hat “It’s to force people to buy the low-quality clothes made in China that Wal-Mart sells”, it sure makes you have to wonder WTF is going on over there (At WalMart).
The grocery stores I mentioned are huge, multi-state chains. Only the local stores are affected by the presence of the Wal-Mart superstore, and I doubt that it sells much food imported from any foreign country.
So, woe to those who purchase fabrics? More victims of evil Wal-Mart! Look at it this way: there’s an excellent opportunity now for small, independent fabric store to be successful in your area.
Ah, my misunderstanding. Large muti-state chains are theoretically operating at the same (sorta) level as Wal-mart.
Victims is a pretty strong word. More like “f’ing annoying”, but that’s about it.
I wanna note that I did NOT say “evil”. My solution ain’t to create big moonbat sit-ins, it’s simply one of the many reasons I only buy from Wal-Mart if I have NO other choice.
