Rangel is in trouble. Maxine Waters is in trouble.
Charlie Rangel is in trouble. Murtha is in trouble.
If the leadership is smart, they would have popped all of these people out of their chairs until they are cleared.
Uh, Jack? that is the leadership. Good luck getting them to remove themselves……
Leadership is really The Speaker (Pelosi),
Majority Leader (Hoyer), Dem Whip ( Clybuurn), Dem Caucus Chair (Larsen) , Dem Steering Chairs ( DeLauro and Miller)
and DCCC Chair (Van Hollen) and they take some cues from DNC (Gov Kaine).
Now you could include the members of the democratic caucus leadership team which is all the deputy whips, which would include Waters, but, nominally the above list is considered leadership.
Now power rests within the committee chairs and sub-chairs on a day to day basis, but leadership nominates them. If leadership wanted to they could convene the caucus and say “At this point in time, in the best interests of the party, the following members are relieved of their chairs temporarily until the ethics committee can clear them)”
Now is Leadership willing to take on that fight? Well, they don’t ask me.
And while the pachyderms continue their ostrich impersonations, nothing will come of any of it.
