…and Mexican gun violence:
Obama is right that the U.S. is largely responsible for the carnage in Mexico, which claimed more than 6,000 lives last year. But the problem is neither the drugs Americans buy nor the guns they sell; it’s the war on drugs our government insists the rest of the world help it fight. Instead of acknowledging the failure of drug control, the Obama administration is using it as an excuse for an equally vain attempt at gun control.
And the administration continues to lie about the percentage of Mexican guns that come from the US, and much of the media ignorantly (or otherwise) repeat it.
I heard a clip the other day from the Mexican side. I do not remember who was talking. The point was that they blame American consumption of drugs and American sales of weapons. Even if you take the underlying assumptions as a given I would still note that he didn’t mention Mexico’s consumption of weapons or Mexico’s sale of drugs. This transaction is apparently all our fault.
Mr. Simberg,
You can’t possibly expect the government of Mexico, or the denizens of those lands, to accept any responsibility for their current condition.
75 years of single part rule? Irrelevant.
PEMEX as slush fund? Irrelevant.
Mexican aristocracy thwarting the rise of a merchant class (Carlos Slim, I am looking at YOU)? Irrelevant.
It would be racist to think that the elites of Mexico bear any responsibility for Mexico. Everybody knows that the tragedies of human existence are solely because of the Yanqui, and only the Yanqui must make amends.
That, and it is all George W. Bush’s fault.
Shouldn’t you be celebrating that Obama has
had the Federal Government stop conducting
raids on states with Medical Marijuana statutes?
Annex Mexico, send the @$#%^ spaniards back to Spain or shoot them and be done with it.
