President Obama is looking forward to working with (corrupt, and no longer running France) Jacques Chirac for the next four years.
Apparently, Barack Obama’s difficulty in finding competent help continues from his campaign into his presidency.

Christ, I really hope that’s just some weird misinterpreted nasty rumor.
I mean, really, this is ridiculous. To have the President space out who the President of France is, and then nobody from the Executive Branch double checks, goes well beyond partisan laff grist. It makes a mockery of the United States. I’m having a hard time imagining they are that screwed up.
Unfortunately, Carl, you don’t have to imagine it. The administration’s incompetence is demonstrated daily. Obama is starting to make Jimmy Carter look like a genius!
I agree with Jim Lindgren that perhaps he didn’t confuse the French Presidents, but rather really intended to work with Jacque Chirac on other issues. Jacque Chirac is recognized as a corrupt politician in France, so dealing with him fits in line with dealing with Daschle and Richardson.
As an aside (actually a bad joke) Who really cares if we piss off France? Again, only kidding. I cannot fathom the lack of attention to detail this administration displays on an almost daily basis. Thank God they’re not Air Traffic Controllers…no wait, they’re government and the smoking holes they’ll leave wll be far worse.
Updated reports (see particularly the link to Volokh) seem to indicate that he wrote a letter to Chirac at the latter’s current (unelected?) position.
The catch is that he apparently still hasn’t given Sarkozy the time of day, much less arranged for a visit that Sarkozy apparently really wants.

Obama also supposedly wants the European countries to cooperate on economics.
Oops.
What is it w/ you people?! It’s all just pettifogging details. The real issue is whether the One will be able to save us from ourselves. Who is President of France matters less than finding those w/ whom the One can work.
Expect letters to non-Netanyahu leaders in Israel, and non-Merkel leaders in Germany, too.
Once the world has been reshaped in His image, then the way of the One will be complete!
