The metastable vacuum thing is interesting, and the behavior of the lower-energy vacuum bubble sounds very familiar — but I can’t be the first to remark on that.
I think however, that it’s scientists but manager we need to be worried about. I am thinking Bhopal and Chernobyl. Grey goo, wouldn’t take over because of some experiment, gone wrong, but because bean counter decided to save a 1/1000 of a cent in removing some fail safe redundancy that had been there before.
